Our foray into food processing primarily on banana based value added products has been our latest venture along with other foods and ingredients. We have developed a product range based on indigenous banana varieties, their nutritive values and usability for various industries as well as direct consumption. We have an ongoing process for product development with the aim to bring out multiple indigenous food products that creates more value to farmers and the end consumers.
Nutraceuticals
Pre-Biotic Powder
Green Bananas are prebiotic in nature and have Resistant Starch Type-II that helps the gut microbiome. Resistant Starch helps in managing diabetics by improving insulin sensitivity, digestion and absorption of nutrients by the body.
Prebiotics are an essential component to restore the gut microbiome balance. Country Nendran Bananas have the highest fibre and resistant starch, and we have scientifically selected the green Nendran bananas with the highest starch content through our pre-processing protocols to produce the highest quality of prebiotic powders.
Moringa powder
Moringa powder, made from the leaves of the moringa tree, has a number of science-backed benefits and medicinal uses. This super-food has been used as a traditional remedy in Ayurveda healing for thousands of years. We are working on value addition with a group of farmers that cultivate Moringa in the region to obtain a better value for their produce.
Functional Foods
Banana Powder
We have created a functional food that has been derived from Nendran and Peyan bananas, traditional varieties that have high resistant starch properties and high potassium and magnesium levels. Our dehydration process further increases this by concentrating the minerals, thus making it 3 times higher than a fresh banana. Potassium and magnesium are key minerals that aid in muscle recovery for athletes and sports persons. Potassium is the most essential mineral for lowering blood pressure levels.
Uses – Baby food, health supplement for endurance sports persons and athletes, potassium supplement for blood pressure, heart diseases and digestive disorders.
Dehydrated Fruit
Yelakki and Karpooravalli most traditional varieties that taste great and are packed with nutrients have a short shelf life, unlike the globally traded G9 Cavendish. We have increased the shelf life and functionality of the bananas by our dehydration process. We have lab tested results of a three-fold increase in vital minerals and dietary fiber which makes it a functional food for endurance activities and sports.
Ingredients
Banana Flour
We have created banana flour with a mix of traditional cooking banana varieties like Monthan, Peyan and Padathi. Banana flour is gluten free and is really versatile to create multiple recipes from healthy breakfast dishes to indulgent desserts.
We have worked with many chefs and bakers to test our products in making cakes, cookies, crepes, bread, desserts and local delicacies like panniyaram and bonda with 100% banana flour. This also works as a great thickening agent for pastas, curries and other dishes.
Banana Fibre
Every part of the banana plant can be put to commercial use and we are persistently striving towards that objective. The banana bark fiber is slowly gaining traction into various industries like home décor, fabric and textiles.
We have two variations of the fiber, one is stripped off the barks post the fruits harvest, and sun dried to create home décor products like mats, baskets, carpets and window blinds.
In the second variation, the fiber from the barks are extracted by a mechanical process, and this goes into making textile and fabrics. The banana fiber makes a great alternative to other natural fibers due to its abundant availability all year round, and the social and environmental sustainability it brings to the entire value chain from the farmers to the end consumers.
